We're Back

I picked up the boat today from Atlantic Outboard and with a rebuilt trailer we made it back in the water. The lower unit was totaled just from a bunch of mono that someone tossed overboard. Considering the parts had to come from Wisconsin I think the guys did an exceptional job to get me back in the water in only one week. I went for a test ride and everything worked just right. I'm getting reports of some big bluefish around. The water temps are above normal for this time of year so there...

The good news and the bad news

I had a trip this morning and the weather was perfect, That's the good news. We were on the backside of Fishers when the lower unit on the motor blew. That's the bad news. We got towed back to the dock in a very timely manner thanks to Tow Boat US. That's the good news. I had to go back home to pick up the trailer and take it to Westbrook. That's the bad news. I made it there safely and the repairs will be covered by warranty, that's the good news. As I was backing the trailer into a...

Is a swarm of fish bigger than a school of fish ?

For some strange reason I got up early today and went for a boat ride. The sun was coming up and the fog was coming in. The tide was starting to flood so I went out to my favorite spot and then to my next favorite spot. The first hour resulted in a big zero. The fog started to lift so I took a ride. Saw a few birds then a few fish then a lot of fish then a ton of fish. I haven't seen so many bass in a couple of years. There were so many I crimped the barb and tried to get the singles on...

And then the fish showed up

I went out this morning by myself to see if there was any life left in the ocean. My first cast caught a 12 lb. bluefish so that wasn't a bad start. I had a steady pick of 8 - 12 lb bass for about four hrs. They were on squid and sand eels. The difference was that today they wanted to eat. I actually got to cast at selected breaking fish. I picked up one more 12lb. blue and that finished the day. I don't know where the big blues came from but one or two a day is just enough work for me....
